Calming Lavender Sensory Playdough Recipe

Looking for a fun and relaxing activity to do with your little ones? We've got the perfect recipe for our Calming Lavender Sensory Play-dough that will keep your kids entertained (and chilled out) for ages.

Remember, this play-dough is not only great for sensory play but also for calming down those little ones who might be feeling a bit overwhelmed.

So go ahead, gather your ingredients, and get ready for some lavender-scented fun. Your kids will thank you for it and you might even get to finish a HOT cup of tea while they play.

Ingredients:
  • 250ml Water
  • 100g Cooking Salt
  • 1 Tablespoon Cream of Tartar
  • 250g Plain Flour (Sifted)
  • 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
  • Food Colouring or Powder Paints
  • Lavender Oil
  • Dried Lavender
Method:
Gently warm water, salt, cream of tartar and food colouring or powder paints (we like to use red & blue to make purple) in a medium pot. Stir until all ingredients are dissolved. Do not let them simmer or get too hot, as your dough will overcook and become lumpy.

Remove from heat and slowly add in sifted flour while whisking.

Add olive & lavender oil. Start with a couple of drops of lavender and keep adding until your nose is happy.

Knead mix on a lightly floured flat surface until smooth. If the mix is sticky just add a bit more flour until the consistency is just right.

Knead in dried lavender (the kids love this part) and enjoy!
Tips:

Trying to find dried lavender? We buy ours from our local bulk health food store, usually in the tea section. Excellent addition to your sensory play stash or add to your potion play platter. Haven't experienced potion play yet? Have a look at our incredible Potion Play collection here.
